I just had to share this with you guys – remember my post on praying mantises?  And how we placed mantis eggs all over the backyard this spring to ward off the grasshoppers?  Then I had shots of one of the eggs hatching, and 2 more progressive shots of the mantises growing up?  Well, I was just thinking to myself not too long ago “I wonder what happened to the mantises?”  Because our cold snap had hit, and I wasn’t really sure how long they tend to stick around anyway.. I know, I know.. it’s called Google.  😛

Well guess who I came across just yesterday?

Just look at this bad boy!!  Believe me, until I looked closer, I had no idea it was a mantis – because it was SO big!!  This shot really doesn’t do the size much justice, but this guy was at least 4″ long – probably closer to 4 1/2″.  Wow!!!!  Our “baby” mantises are all grown up!!  *And before you know it, they’re off on their own*

Need I say again that our grasshopper population was probably 1/10th of what it was last year?   My herbs and flowers were soooo happy to not get eaten up this year!

Moving on, I know this was a shortie, but next post we’re going to get our hands dirty with something sure to bring the child out in all of us.  :)   Stay tuned!
